Former Vietnamese teacher jailed for eight years for Facebook posts
Van Thuan, a former Vietnamese high school chemistry teacher who posted a Facebook post criticizing environmental pollution and the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, has been sentenced to eight years in prison. He will also be under house arrest for five years after serving his sentence. Vietnamese prosecutors accused him of slandering the reputation and honor of local and central leaders, bending party and state policies, and arousing suspicion among the people. Thuan has denied all allegations and reiterated his innocence. He was arrested last August.
